Members
Police Authorities normally have a membership of 17 people;
- Nine Councillors nominated by the local authorities of the area;
- eight Independent Members who are directly appointed (at least one of the Independent Members should be a magistrate).

Committees
The Authority has a number of committees, forums and working groups which help to monitor the performance of the constabulary.

A committee meeting is a meeting to discuss the business of the Authority relating to the policing of Lancashire. Members of the public can ask questions, in limited circumstances, at its full Police Authority and committee meetings.
Individuals and representatives of organisations can ask a question or make a statement about items in the public part of the agenda. All you have to do is let the Chief Executive know, three working days in advance, who you are and what you want to say.
