The Audit and Standards Committee monitors the effectiveness of the Authority's and Constabulary's internal control systems through internal and external audit; risk management and corporate governance of the Authority's business; is responsible for Standards and Conduct matters relating to Members and formally receives the Authority's Statement of Accounts.
Two Independent Lay Members from outside the Authority are appointed to this Committee to help increase public confidence, provide a clear signal that the Committee is fair, and bring a wider perspective from their outside experiences. This Committee is also currently chaired by one of the Independent Lay Members, Mrs Deborah Dugdale.
