Policing Pledge
What does the Policing Pledge mean to you?
The 'Policing Pledge' is a set of national standards which tells you the level of service you can expect to receive from police forces. It has been launched as part of the Governments Green Paper and came into effect on December 31st 2008.
In Lancashire the Policing Pledge, we believe, is building upon the success of Lancashire Constabulary in delivering a policing service that is responsive to local communities and reflects the expectations that the community places upon it.
The Policing Pledge is simply, a new set of principles being adopted by all police forces in England and Wales aimed at ensuring that the police service performs to nationally agreed standards in those areas which the public say matter most to them - such as police response times, being kept informed and having a visible police presence in local communities.
The following document details how the Police Authority will be scrutinising each part of the Pledge.

Getting involved
Lancashire Police Authority fully supports the Policing Pledge and we have incorporated it into our 'Investors in Policing campaign' which complements the Pledge in the way it commits the Police Authority to consult with local people about their community views and concerns.
As an Investor in the police (through the payment of council tax), you can voice opinions about the type of police service you want, help set the policing priorities and targets and share your experiences/expectations of policing services.
Your views are critical to the delivery of a police service that is responsive and reflective of your concerns and policing priorities and the Policing Pledge is a way of ensuring that your expectations of the police are met and that the police are focused on addressing your concerns in the area where you live.
Ensuring delivery of the Policing Pledge to residents
The Policing Pledge is a critical part of building and maintaining public confidence and satisfaction with the police service. It is our role, on behalf of Lancashire residents, to ensure that Lancashire Constabulary lives up to the promises they have made to you as part of the Pledge.
We will fulfil this role through our ongoing monitoring, scrutiny and oversight of the Constabulary through the work of our committees which meet regularly with the constabulary to assess progress and agree actions where required. All our committee meetings are held in public - as is the full Authority meeting - and you are welcome to become involved by attending any of these meetings.
The Policing Pledge involves all aspects of policing and is designed to ensure that the public receive a quality service. The Police Authority scrutinises the Constabulary's performance against the 10 Pledge promises through its committees and its work with partners such as the Community Safety Partnership (CSP's).
