The ‘Investors in Policing’ campaign was launched on Sunday 1 July and aims to encourage YOU to get more involved in shaping how policing is delivered.

When it comes to investment options for your hard earned cash what drives your investment decision?

Do you ask questions such as ‘What return will I get?’ ‘How will it be managed?’ ‘What is the risk involved?’ ‘What types of companies will my money be invested in?’

The same could be said of policing. As a Lancashire resident you invest in Policing through the payment of council tax. An average council tax payer in 2008 pays around £135 a year.

The question Lancashire Police Authority wants to ask is ‘are you wise about your investment return?’

As an investor, you can do any of the following:

  • Voice opinions about the type of police service you want
  • Help set the policing priorities and targets
  • Attend local police meetings
  • Share your experiences/expectations of policing services

The Police Authority believes that policing priorities should be developed with residents and reflect local needs. To do this, we want to listen to you to find out what you expect from local policing.

At the launch event hundreds of local people were ‘brought in for questioning’ but, rather than being in trouble, they helped Lancashire Police Authority with their enquiries, by sharing views on policing.

Views were captured by leaving a video message in the police diary room and members of the public were invited to allocate ‘£125 policing pounds’ to spend across 16 areas of policing to ‘vote’ for how they think that money should be spent.

In addition, members of the public were invited to try and ‘grab’ real £5 notes donated by our sponsor which were mingled in with fake money in a ‘money grabber’ kiosk.

The launch was a great success and photos from the event can be seen in our gallery section.

So, if you want to be ‘investment wise’ and help shape local policing then you need to get on board.
