Annual Policing Budget
Last year Lancashire residents helped make a significant investment in policing in Lancashire by providing over £4.5m to bolster the fight against serious and organised crime, the threat from terrorism and to deliver local policing in neighbourhoods to tackle local issues.
This investment clearly paid off, as Lancashire once again has been recognised by Her Majesty Inspector of Constabulary as being the joint top performing force and has also been judged favourably in how it spends its money and uses its resources.
We are now considering the budget for next year and we want to continue to make improvements to local policing and to continue to build upon the good work that is already in place. However, despite our continuing drive for efficiencies, our costs, like your own household bills, continue to increase significantly above the funding that the government provides and simply to “standstill” and deliver services at our current level would require a council tax increase of 4.5%
We continue to face the challenge of council tax capping imposed by the Government to limit the extent to which council tax can be increased and this means that if we wish to continue to develop policing services in Lancashire we need to know your views on the level of increase you would be prepared to pay in your council tax for policing in 2008/09.
